| British Gypsum has donated a plastics recycling bank to the Kirkby Thore community. British Gypsum take seriously its environmental responsibilities and actively work to minimise its impact on valuable natural resources, this was therefore a project that they were enthusiastic to be involved in and support. Douglas Kinnear, British Gypsum Operations Manager said ‘we have recently started to transport some of our goods from our Kirkby Thore site by train in order to reduce our impact on the environment and this was an ideal opportunity to support the local community with their environmental project’. Kirkby Thore Parish Council in conjunction with Eden District Council have developed a new recycling centre in the village following the increasing demand from the community to recycle their rubbish. Porters of Calthwaite were commissioned to produce the plastic bank to the Eden Community Recycling (ECR) design and specification, this bank will be serviced by ECR at no cost to the community.
ECR are continually looking to work with community groups to provide new facilities in the belief that people are no longer satisfied with just recycling some materials they want to recycle everything. If your village would like to develop a new recycling centre or expand the current site contact ECR on 01768 840259.
